Organizational Overview
Located in the heart of Newport’s historic district, IYRS School of Technology & Trades is a non-profit, post-secondary experiential learning institution. Our 3-acre harbor-front campus houses amazing facilities with traditional and state-of-the-art equipment. Our mission is to empower students through immersive, hands-on innovative learning to realize their full potential.
IYRS offers four certificate programs for people interested in careers in the marine trades and advanced manufacturing. IYRS students are passionate about thinking and working through hands-on learning to develop skills and problem-solving abilities. IYRS was named a Best Maker School by Newsweek Magazine in 2021.
Primary functions and purpose of this position
The Marketing Coordinator supports the execution of IYRS’s marketing and communications efforts, with a strong emphasis on content creation, alumni storytelling, and digital engagement. This role works closely with the VP of Marketing & Communication and cross-functional partners to help tell authentic stories about IYRS students, alumni, programs, and community. The ideal candidate is an organized, creative communicator who enjoys writing, managing content across platforms, and keeping projects moving—from social media posts and alumni features to email campaigns.
Requirements
Social Media & Digital Content
Create, schedule, and publish content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X, Google Business)
Contribute to content calendars tied to campaigns, events, and key moments throughout the year
Photography, videography, editing and caption writing
Monitor engagement and support ongoing optimization and content refinement
Community management: monitoring comments, answering questions and flagging concerns
Alumni Storytelling & Content Development
Conduct interviews with alumni, students, faculty, and staff to gather compelling stories and quotes to be cross-posted on social media feeds and IYRS news
Maintain and update an alumni feature story tracker, including outreach status, publishing timelines, and content usage
Collaborate with Advancement to align storytelling efforts with engagement goals
Blog & Long-Form Writing
Write and edit blog posts covering alumni stories, student projects, program highlights, events, and institutional news
Support editorial planning and maintain a steady cadence of blog content
Adapt long-form content for use across email, social media, and PR channels
Email Marketing
Build, format, and deploy marketing and communications emails
Assist with email segmentation, scheduling, and performance tracking
Ensure emails reflect brand voice, messaging priorities, and institutional tone
Repurpose blog and alumni content for email campaigns
Website Content & Optimization
Update and maintain website content, including alumni features, blog posts, program updates, and news items
Support content optimization efforts (headings, formatting, internal linking, and readability)
Ensure website content remains accurate, current, and aligned with institutional messaging
Public Relations & External Communications
Assist in drafting press releases, announcements, and short-form media content
Support distribution of press materials and tracking of placements
Help identify story opportunities related to alumni achievements, events, and institutional milestones
Collaboration & Administrative Support
Develop authentic relationship with Admissions, Advancement, Student Services, Academic teams and students to support content needs
Support marketing projects, campaigns, and events as assigned
Maintain organized files, trackers, and documentation for content and campaigns
Uphold brand standards and ensure consistency across all materials
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Comfort writing both short-form (social, email) and long-form (blogs, features) content
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
Availability to support select weekend events (approximately once per month), with flexibility to adjust weekday schedules as needed
Willingness to travel periodically (1–2 times per month) within New England to connect with industry and hiring partners and highlight alumni stories on site
Preferred:
1–3 years of experience in marketing, communications, content writing, or digital media
Experience with alumni, advancement, higher education, or nonprofit communications
Familiarity with website CMS platforms and basic SEO best practices
Experience with email marketing tools and social media scheduling platforms
Photography, basic design, or video editing experience is a plus

Salary Range and Benefits
Annual salary $45,000 - $55,000
