* Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours may vary and include
occasional evenings or weekend events and live broadcasts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communications Specialist is a professional-level position responsible for
producing written and digital content supporting City communications initiatives
in collaboration with team members. The role requires high-level strategic and
tactical skills in all areas of marketing and communications. Primary position
responsibilities and areas of impact:Β
* Create and implement strategic, multimedia marketing and communication plans
for various Citywide and individual department programs.
* Produce, edit and publish written, digital and video content for internal and
external City initiatives.
* Design graphics and visual assets for web, video, social media and print
campaigns.
* Manage internal communications content creation and dissemination.
* Lead efforts related to podcast production, live meeting broadcasts, PEG
channel programming and broadcast equipment maintenance.
* Ensure compliance with branding and accessibility standards.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in
teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a
part of their role with the City.
REQUIREMENTS
* Bachelorβs degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field
is required.
* Three years of related professional experience (in strategic communications,
digital or multimedia marketing, social media content management, video
production or graphic design) is required.
* Experience in writing, editing and storytelling skills across digital, print
and multimedia platforms required.
* Experience designing graphics and visual assets for web, video, social media
and print campaigns preferred.
* Computer software proficiency (i.e. MS Word/Google Docs, MS Excel/Google
Spreadsheets, etc.) is required.
* Most work is done in an office environment. Physical effort is light for the
majority of work with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittentl
There are occasional visits to City Department locations and off-site
meetings. Between 15-45% of the time there is pressure associated with a
project or activity deadline. Report preparation and writing at times
requires extended use of a keyboard. Work interruptions are frequent.
* Candidates must successfully complete and pass the Cityβs evaluation of the
pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment
processes for this position include professional reference checks, background
check, work verification and education verification.
