Job Description
MSNBC Digital is seeking a creative and driven Associate Producer for Social Media to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of political news and current events, a passion for the MSNBC brand, and the ability to generate innovative ideas that amplify our presence across social platforms. You will be responsible for pitching unique stories, producing engaging short-form videos, and leveraging social media trends to connect with audiences. Strong editorial judgment, sharp video editing skills (Adobe Premiere), and flexibility to respond quickly to breaking news are essential.
This position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.
Responsibilities
Monitor breaking news and ensure timely clipping, editing, and posting for social platforms
Identify, pitch, and produce shareable news and perspective content
Create and edit original short-form videos that drive engagement
Produce breaking news content in multiple formats (video, text, photo, live streams)
Write compelling, accurate headlines and captions that spark audience interaction.
Ensure all content meets MS NOW's editorial, quality, journalistic, and legal standards.
Design and produce graphics and photo posts for Instagram and other platforms.
Collaborate with show producers and marketing team on daily content
Execute on social media rollouts for special interviews and events
Monitor social media trends and audience behavior to inform content strategy
Coordinate and execute daily livestreams
Prepare research and elements for livestreams
Produce YouTube content for longer form viewing
Produce YouTube headlines, thumbnails, metadata with best practices for higher view counts
Qualifications
At least 3 years of experience in news production, producing short-form social media content
Proven ability to identify and create shareable/viral news and perspective content.
Expert knowledge of social media platforms, audiences, and emerging trends.
Know how to edit in Adobe Premiere
Experience producing YouTube content from edit to executing on metadata strategy
Experience creating eye-catching graphics (Figma, Adobe Photoshop)
Strong production vision with the ability to turn concepts into engaging social content
Skilled in adapting breaking news into vertical formats for social platforms
Experience shooting, editing, and producing video content creatively and effectively
Self-starter with the ability to pitch ideas daily, work independently, and meet tight deadlines
Proficiency with digital gear (camera operations, microphones)
Additional Job Requirements:
Must work in New York City
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and different shifts for breaking news (evenings, weekends)
Hybrid 3 days in office
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
Salary Range: $75-80K
