CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direction of the Region Manager, assists in
implementation of Chicago Park District marketing program and all communications
efforts, public and internal. Plans, organizes, coordinates and disseminates
public and internal information for local parks programs, services and
facilities. Maintains liaison with central communications and marketing offices.
Performs liaison services between Chicago Park District and community groups,
agencies and individuals to implement marketing and communications strategies.
Performs related duties as assigned or required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
* Conducts research and field work as needed to develop and implement marketing
and communications strategies.
* May include developing accurate price comparisons, specifications and
requirements for promotional and advertising efforts.
* Establishes and maintains media contacts, works with community contacts.
* Advises and trains park staff on media and community relations.
* As directed, serves as Chicago Park District liaison with outside agencies
and sponsors in planning special projects and special events; contributes to
employee newsletter.
* Helps prepare schedules, press releases, promotional and marketing
materials.
* Develops media proposals and education campaigns, designs concept and copy
for program brochures, fliers, posters, advertisements and other promotional
and
informational materials.
* Under direction, coordinates marketing activities of region and area park
managers and supervisors consistent with overall Chicago Park District
communication and marketing strategies as they relate to community needs.
* Works on every aspect of these strategies from planning and development stage
through execution and evaluation.
* Coordinates development of individual displays, publicity and promotional
efforts.
* Helps overall structuring of marketing components so that research, date,
supplies, and other elements are all in place.
* Assists in coordination of information required for program accountability
and evaluation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years’ experience in
communications/marketing field, or an equivalent combination of education and
experience, is required. Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing,
Journalism or related field is preferred. Experience with a community based
agency or program and experience dealing with media is recommended.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of contemporary public relations practices.
* Knowledge of public policy principles.
* Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts both in
writing and verbally.
* Ability to relate to community groups.
* Creative writing and editing skills.
* Fundamental computer skills including Word
* Perfect and basic desktop publishing.
